WHAT IS SIDEMOUNT ?

Sidemount Diving originated from the United Kingdom cave divers. They used smaller scuba tanks, attached on the side to fit into smaller cave passages.

It then transformed into its more modern way in Florida and Mexico and has been used as a tool to push exploration in underwater caves that backmounted twinset wouldn’t allow to pass. More recently it reached the open water diving world and is now taught as an entry door to technical diving but also as a wonderful and versatile diving technique for recreational scuba divers.

Many people still think that carrying two tanks is cumbersome, hard to manage both underwater and at the surface, that it requires too much equipment and is only for a handful of crazy tech divers. This vision is outdated. With the proper training, you will realize that setting up your sidemount equipment is quick, easy and simple and requires nothing more than a good training and the appropriate equipment.
At a recreational diving level sidemount really increase safety and fun underwater.
For those who wants to venture into technical or cave diving , sidemount is the perfect first step. Once you you get familiar with this kind of equipment, you will be ready to move towards more serious diving.

And eventually, professional dive guides, photographers and solo divers will definitely enjoy the increased level of redundancy and the self rescue skills related to sidemount.

WHY DIVING SIDEMOUNT ?

. Increased safety : By using two independent gas sources, sidemount offers true gas redundancy. Moreover, having your regulators right under your eyes makes it easier to solve problems and save gas in case of need. All point of failures are basically under your eyes.

. Increased comfort : The two tanks sitting on the sides create a natural balance that helps you having a better trim and better hydro-dynamism. Lift and weight distribution will give you a natural feeling of flying underwater.

. Better fit : The sidemount BCD is way more customizable and has a better fit no matter your body shape, either male of female, than traditional single tank BCD.

. Increased Freedom : Your back being free from tanks and your regulators being better routed along your body, you will naturally have better freedom of movement and better field of vision.

. Travel friendly : Even with the need to bring have two regulators, modern diving equipment are usually lighter and less bulky than traditional BCD.

. Body Friendly : By carrying the tank on your side, and usually setting up directly in the water. People with back problem will benefit from switching to sidemount.

. Ease of logistics : Sidemount can be adapted to any kind of tanks. You do not need special tanks or valves to use it. Therefore you can use sidemount anywhere in the world, land based or liveaboard, for recreational or complex overhead technical diving.

In one word sidemount is UNIVERSAL.
